Hellsing is named after and centered around the Royal Order of Protestant Knights originally led by Abraham Van Helsing. It was broadcast on Adult Swim's Toonami programming block in 2014. In North America the series was first licensed by Geneon Entertainment and later by Funimation and launched from December 2006 to October 2014. The series spanned 10 episodes, released in Japan between February 2006 and December 2012. It followed the manga storyline more closely than the anime series. An original video animation (OVA), titled Hellsing Ultimate, was produced by Geneon. Konaka was broadcast on Japan's Fuji Television from October 2001 to January 2002. From 2001 to 2009, Hirano released a 6-chapter prequel series, Hellsing: The Dawn, in special editions of Young King OURs.Ī 13-episode anime television series adaptation by Gonzo, directed by Umanosuke Iida and Yasunori Urata, with screenplay by Chiaki J. The series was licensed for English language release in North America by Dark Horse Comics. The individual chapters were subsequently collected and published in 10 tankōbon volumes by Shōnen Gahōsha. The series chronicles the efforts of the mysterious and secret Hellsing Organization as it combats vampires, ghouls, and other supernatural foes who threaten England. It was serialized in Young King OURs from May 1997 to September 2008. Hellsing (stylized as HELLSING) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kouta Hirano.
